What a pleasure it has been to open the (barn) doors đ and welcome couples wanting barn weddings on our family farm.
We have had the privilege of sharing our space with many dynamic couples that have created stunningly idiosyncratic weddings. Not many â but the range of creative styles has been widely diverse. From Rustic Boho to Hay Bale Hoedown, to Steam Punk Funk to Cool Country Chic â the DIY nature of the barn weddings on our family farm has inspired it all.
But how did it all start? You might be surprised.
Family Weddings on the farm
Prior to opening the doors to the community seeking barn weddings, there were two family weddings on the farm. Â But while both of those had ceremonies on the property, neither of the receptions were in the barn. For one, a clear top marquee was hired and for another, the reception was offsite.
Friends came first to the barnÂ
It was only until family friends Joseph and Tepi came to see us in 2010, asking if they could wed on the farm, did the idea of weddings in the barn become a thing. Â At that stage the space had been used only for storage of old farm equipment. But there was no stopping them, and a series of working bees ensued, culminating in the first, fabulous barn wedding held on the property.
And then, it all took off right with lights, camera action and a steady succession of âI dosâ?
Ah no, actually – nothing happened. We celebrated the wedding of friends and then got on with the general business of life, and it wasn’t until years later that more weddings came along. Â
Brian and Sheenaâs barn wedding vision
About 5 years later, Brian, a wedding photographer, and his fiancĂ© Sheena discovered a story about Jospeh and Tepiâs wedding on the Polka Dot Wedding Blog site. They reached out and we offered the space, and the vision of barn weddings on our family farm resurfaced.
There was much to do, as the barn had once again fallen back into storage repository. But these guys were the DIY kings! They, and their respective families, and friends, along with us, made an adventure of turning the barn and surrounding areas into the rustic chic venue of their dreams.
And then, it was all smooth sailing, and we have never looked back since, right?
Ah, no â actually. The impact of Covid 19 was to effectively stop public gatherings such as weddings. Moreover, it impacted on our work lives and barn weddings were once again on the back burner.
It was only until 2023 that we reinvigorated the space, launched our Brisbane Barn Weddings Website and started once again to invite DIY inspired couples to our barn wedding venue. Â
And already since then it has been a rewarding journey. When people ask us why we open the farm as a barn wedding venue, it is the opportunity to inspire DIY creative freedom and the personal rewards that brings to our clients. Â
